We wanted to tell a story...We are 6 high school students who attend Arts & Communication Magnet Academy in Beaverton, Oregon. At our school, everyone is required to do a senior project based around- you guessed it- art. It was about the middle of Junior year when we decided to take this opportunity to make a dream into a reality. The scorching intensity and ambition embedded in "Next to Normal" drew us like moths to flame. After auditions, our dynamic duo became a team and now we are all on a mission to create something that pushes the boundaries placed around high school theatre.
Unfortunately, our school was unable to provide any financial support for this production. Though this was a mighty obstacle, our attitude from the start has been "this is happening, no matter what." The relevance of this show's message to us and our peers (not to mention its thrilling score) made it impossible for us to give up. The upside to being an independent production is we have control over the proceeds. All the profits from our production will be donated to The Dougy Center, which provides free grief counseling to children and parents who've lost loved ones- we want to put our money where this show's mouth is. -The Cast of Next to Normal |
